DTRG Demonstrates at Mānawa Mai – Open Day

Saturday 30th August was one of the busiest days in the University of Auckland Calendar, with the doors opened for Mānawa Mai – Open Day.

As part of this event, DTRG not only had a table in the main display area, but also demonstrated our flight test capability in Motion Capture Lab Tours. Research Assistants Salim Al-Zubaidi and Louis Lee gave visitors an overview of the work done by the group and what we do with drones. This was followed by a demonstration of our fully-actuated planar octocopter, demonstrating its ability to move without tilting, and also tilt without moving. And it wasn’t just our team doing the flying! Visitors were given the chance to get hands-on, the motion of a coffee mug being tracked and the aircraft replicating its motion. All tours were very busy, but it’s always great to show a bit of what we can do.
